The difference between food preparation and energy releasing process are as follows:-
(i) In photosynthesis this process takes place only in autotrophic organisms like plants, whereas in respiration it takes place in both autotrophs and heterotrophs like plants and animals.
(ii)In photosynthesis plants synthesise their food in the presence of sunlight, carbon dioxide and water whereas in respiration exchange of gases takes place in which carbon dioxide is removed from the body and oxygen is taken inside.
(iii) Presence of sunlight is an important requirement for photosynthesis to take place whereas respiration has nothing to do with the sunlight.
(iv) In the process of photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is taken inside while oxygen is released out whereas in the process of respiration oxygen is taken inside and carbon dioxide is released out.
(v) Glucose (food) is formed in the process of photosynthesis as a product whereas no glucose formation takes place while respiration.
