Formal communication means using respectable words in your language or if you are in your job , we usually use this while talking to our boss or our principal or teachers and with people who are higher in post than us.
Informal communication is a simple, friendly conversation between our friends, with our family members or with people in our close relationship, with our neighbours and relatively.
Formal words are respected, honourable , sir , mam etc.
Informal words are dear, lovingly, friend etc.
Hope it helps!
