A particular Gond clan controlled each garh. This was further divided into units of 84 villages known as chaurasi. The chaurasi was subdivided into barhots.

The Garh and Chaurasi were subdivisions of the administration of the Gonds tribe.

The Gonds belonged to an area known as the Gondwana which was mainly a forested area.

The administration was of centralized nature under the Gonds.

Each individual clan under the Gonds ruled a particular area, known as the garh.

While under each such garh, there were a further 84 villages, which were known as Chaurasi.
