Green revolution-The Green Revolution in the late 1960s introduced the Indian farmer to cultivation of wheat and rice using high yielding varieties (HYVs) of seeds. Compared to the traditional seeds, the HYV seeds promised to produce much greater amounts of grain on a single plant. As a result, the same piece of land would now produce far larger quantities of food grains than was possible earlier. HYV seeds, however, needed plenty of water and also chemical fertilizers and pesticides to produce best results. Higher yields were possible only from a combination of HYV seeds, irrigation, chemical fertilizers, pesticides etc.
gene revolution-Gene revolution is associated with use of bio technology in the cultivation process, it has helped farmers in reducing the chemical intake in crops, it also helps in developing crops that control pests and also to enhance nutritional value of crops. It involves the use of biotechnology tools like molecular markers or cryopreservation and reproductive technologies, can be used in the characterisation certain breed of crops, forests, trees etc. A large number of genetic resources can be used to prevent extinction of species of plants , animals which are the main source of food and to ensure their continuity.. It can be used to create genetically modified crops particularly cash crops to meet the growing need of the population
