Differentiate between general and active immunity.
Answers
Active Immunity:-
1. Active immunity is produced actively by host’s immune system as a result of the stimulation by antigen.
2. Active immunity is induced by microbial infection or by contact with antigens.
3. Active immunity lasts long.
4. Active immunity is effective only a period of time required for generating antibodies and/or immunocompetent cells. This period of time is called tag period.
5. There is often a ‘negative phase’ during active immunity development. During negative phase the level of measurable immunity is lower than before amigenic stimulus.
General Immunity:-
1. Passive immunity is transferred from one host to another i.e., it is received passively by the host.
2. It is conferred by antibody-administration in host.
3. Passive immunity lasts short.
4. Passive immunity is effective immediately. It lacks any lag period.
5. Passive immunity does not possess any negative phase.
Active immunity involves your bodies direct response to an unknown pathogen. This response is the production of antibodies specific to the antigen of a particular pathogen. ... Conversely, passive immunity is an immune response which involves antibodies obtained from outside the body.
