A hazard is a potentially damaging physical event or phenomenon or human activity that may cause the loss of life, property damage, social and economic disruption (ie…a Volcano). Hazard has a probability of occurrence…once it occurs (i.e. A Volcano erupting) , it can turn into a disaster.
A disaster occur when a significant number of vulnerable people experience a hazard and suffer severe damage /and or disruption of their livelihood in such a way that recovery is impossible without external aid.
