1. Igneous rocks : The word "Igneous" is derived from the Latin word "ignis" meaning fire. These rocks are also called primary rocks because they are the first rocks which are formed on the surface of the earth.Igneous rocks are usually hard and compact and they are granular and crystalline in nature.

Examples of some Igneous rocks are :feldspar quartzite etc.

2. Metamorphic rocks :  the word "Metarmorphic" is derive from the "matamorphose"  which means change in form. This rocks are usually harder and more compact than its original form.
