- The plain formed by older alluvium is called bhangar.
- Large part of the northern plains is formed of older alluvium.
- It lies above the flood plains of rivers and present terrace like features.
- Soil in this region contains calcareous deposits. They are known as kankar.
- It is less fertile

- The plains formed by the newer alluvium is called khadar.
- This plains covers the flood plains
- It lies in the flood plains of the river and does not present terrace like feature.
- Soil in this plains does not contains calcareous deposits.
- It is very fertile.
