Differentiate between kharif and rabi crops with two examples each.

Kharif crops: These are the crops grown in rainy season extending from june to october hence are also called as monsoon crops. These crops are totally rain dependent crops. Kharif crops include paddy,soybean, sugarcane.

 Rabi crops: These are the crops grown in winter season extenting from october to march. These are winter crops depending on irrigation sources. Rabi cops include wheat, gram, mustard etc.

  1. sown at the beginning of the rainy season, i.e,between April and May
  2. also known as monsoon crops
  3. affected by rainfall pattern
  4. requires hot weather and large amount of water to grow
  5. the harvesting month is between September-October
  6. EXAMPLE: Maize,Rice,Groundnuts etc

RABI CROP:

  1. sown at the end of monsoon or at the beginning of winter,i.e,between September and October
  2. also known as winter or spring crop
  3. not affected by rainfall pattern
  4. requires warm climate for seed germination and cold climate to grow
  5. the harvesting month is between March - April
  6. EXAMPLE: Peas,Wheat,Gram etc
