Answer:

Ambidentate ligand

A unidentate ligand which can bond through different atoms to form different coordination compounds is called ambidentate ligand.

For example, the nitrate ion NO2- can bind to the central metal atom/ion at either the nitrogen atom or one of the oxygen atoms. The thiocyanate ion, SCN- can bind to the central metal at either the sulfur or the nitrogen.

Chelate

Coordination compounds formed by multidentate ligand have a cage like structure and they are called chelates.

Multidentate ligand are also called Chelates ligand and the formation of such complexes is called chelation.

I Hope it helps.

Have a great day.
