>>LIGNITE Coal-
1.Brown coal.
2.Lower grade coal.
3.40 to 55 per cent carbon.
4.Intermediate stage.
5.Dark to black brown.
6.Moisture content is high (over 35 per cent).

>>BITUMINOUS COAL-

1. Soft coal; most widely available and used coal.
2. Derives its name after a liquid called bitumen.
3 40 to 80 per cent carbon.
4. Moisture and volatile content (15 to 40 per cent)
5 Dense, compact, and is usually of black colour.
6. Does not have traces of original vegetable material.
7. Calorific value is very high due to high proportion of carbon and low moisture.
8. Used in production of coke and gas.

"Wood and other vegetable matter declined and became coal millions of years ago under pressure.

During coalification process, depending upon the quality of coal it can be divided into several types.

Lignite coal:

Lignite is a lower grade of coal, it is a soft, combustible, and brown coloured coal. Burning this category of coal produces low heat therefore, it considered as lower grade coal. It contains 60% - 70% of coal.

Bituminous coal:

Bituminous coal comes from very old coal when deposits approximately 300 million years old. It is considered as medium-grade coal because while burning this type of coal, produces more heat energy than the Lignite. The energy of this coal is very high."
