Differentiate between magnetic storage and optical storage

Optical storage devices are flat, round disks that spins around its center. The difference with magnetic storage device is that in optical storage devices LASER light is used to read and write data in disks. Examples are CD, DVD etc.

Data storage mechanism in optical disks:-

  • Optical storage is generally a storage method  where the data is read and written with an optical laser
  • This storage is basically used  for backup purposes
  • Data can be only read by laser beam.

Data storage mechanism in Magnetic disks :-

  • Magnetic storage is the process of storing of data by a magnet.
  • There are various process of magnetization which is used to store the data basically in the form of a non volatile memory.
