Menstrual phase:- This phase is also known as bleeding phase in which due to absence of fertilisation the endometrium breaks down and constitutes the bleeding.
Follicular phase :- During this phase the endometrium proliferates and 1* follicle grows to become Graffian follicle. LH and FSH reach their peak level mid cycle causing LH surge which causes ovulation.
Luteal phase :- The egg is swept into fallopian tube where it awaits fertilization. The ruptured Graafian follicle becomes Corpus luteum which secretes large amount of progesterone to maintain the endometrium lining. Low levels of LH causes degeneration of Corpus luteum and sudden decline in the progesterone level which causes the menstruation.
