The difference is where the centromere is located. Metacentric chromosomes have the centromere in [or very near] the center, such that both sections are of equal [or almost equal] length. The major difference between metacentric chromosome and telocentric chromosome is in the "position of the centromere" in each of these chromosomes.
In Metacentric chromosome, the "centromere" is located almost "near the centre" and both the sections of the chromosome are "nearly equal in length", whereas,
In Telocentric chromosome, the "centromere" is located at the "end of the chromosome".
"Metacentric Chromosomes" are seen to occur in humans, but "Telocentric Chromosomes" doesn't occur in humans.
