Answer:

On the basis of chemical properties —

Metals

  • metals reacts with oxygen of air to form metal oxides.Example—Na+O2 —2Na2O
  • metal reacts with water to form metal hydroxide and hydrogen gas.Ex— 2Na + 2H2O— 2NaOH + H2+Heat
  • metal reacts with dilute acids to form metal salt and hydrogen gas. example—2Na+2HCl—MgCl2+H2
  • metal reacts with chlorine to form their chlorides. example—2Na+ Cl2—2NaCl
  • metal reacts with hydrogen to form metal hydrides. example—2Na+H2—2NaH.

Non - metals

  • non metal reacts with oxygen to form acidic oxides or non metallic oxide. example–C+O2—CO2
  • non metal do not reacts with water.
  • A More reactive non metal displaces a less reactive non metal from its salt solution. example–2NaBr+Cl2—2NaCl+Br2
  • non metal reacts with chlorine to form covalent chloride which do not conduct electricity. example- H2 + Cl2 —2HCL
  • non metal reacts with hydrogen to form covalent hydrides. example- H2+ S—H2S

Explanation:

Unlike metals, nonmetals aren't malleable and ductile. Nonmetals react more with metals than with nonmetals. Usually, nonmetals react with other nonmetals in high temperature. Most nonmetals do not react with air in room temperature.
