nitrification = some microorganisms (nitrosomonas , nitrobacter) convert Ammonia into nitrates .this process called nitrification

Denitrification= there are some other bacteria ( decomposers, eg pseudomonas ) which reduce nitrates back to nitrogen or to ammonia or to same other oxide . This process is called denitrification
