Differentiate between northern plains and the great Indian desert

  • The great Indian desert also called the Thar desert is a large arid region of the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent and it covers an area about 200,000 km square. And it forms a natural boundary of the Pakistan and is the 9th largest subtropical desert. About 85% of this is located n the Indian province and 15% in the Pakistan region.
  • It is divided into the dry sandy and the masrathali region and it extends for the Aravalli in the east to the rann of kutch. The stretch of sand in this region is interspersed by the hilly rocks and the gravel plains. It has 141 species of the migratory birds and dominated by the scrub and the thorny forests.
  • While the Indo Gangetic plains are the river made plain of the 630 meters. It has fertile soil and is composed of the northern and the eastern part of the form the Punjab as the trans-Gangetic plain to the upper plains of the Uttar Pradesh and the middle plain of the Bihar and lower plains of the West Bengal region.
  • Soil consists of the fertile deposits of the alluvial and the rich and also called as the large floodplains. It has five rivers as the Beas, the Yamuna, the Gomti, Ravi, Chambal, the Sutlej, and the Chenab. Thus this region is a dominant place for farming and agricultural activity. And has various large species animals.
  • It has a cool and moist climate with ample population growth compared to that of the sparsely populated great Indian desert.
