Answer:
Differentiate Between Osmotic potential and matric potential
a) Osmotic potential - It is the potential water molecules to form a hypotonic solution to a hypertonic solution across a semi-permeable membrane. It is also known as solute potential and is a measure of water potential for movement from a region of lower solute concentration to higher solute concentration.
b) Matric potential - Matric potential is a consequence of the binding of water to materials such as soil particles, cellulose, and proteins and the enclosure of water in capillaries or other fine pores. It is defined as the portion of water potential that can be attributed to the attraction of the soil matrix for water.
It is measured by a tensiometer.
Answer:
MATRIC POTENTIAL
1. It is the reduction in free energy of water as a result of the formation of a thin immobile surface layer of the water molecule
OSMOTIC POTENTIAL
1. It is the reduction in the free energy of water due to the decrease in the number of water molecules per molal volume.
