Parenchyma is a type of permanent tissue. It is formed by few layers of cells with basic packing tissue. It consists of unspecialised cells within the thin cells. These are live cells. They are loosely packed. There are large spaces between the cells. This tissue provides support to the plant. This tissue stores food also.
The flexibility in plants is due to a permanent tissue. This permanen tissue is called the collenchyma. it helps in easy bending of various parts of the body of the plant like leaf , stem without breaking it. It also provides mechanical support to the plants. The cell of this tissue is living, elongated and irregularly thickened at the corners. There is a very little cellular space

Difference # Parenchyma:

1. The cell wall is commonly thin but uniform in thickness.

2. It provides mechanical strength only when the cells are fully turgid

3. Parenchyma is found in both the outer and inner parts of plant organs.

4. It does not have a high refractive index.

5. It shows several types of modifications.

6. It occurs in both primary and secondary structures of plants.

7. It has the ability to dedifferentiate and form secondary meristem.

Difference # Collenchyma:

1. The cell walls develop extra thickenings at places (tangential walls, angles or adjacent to intercellular spaces).

2. Collenchyma is a living mechanical tissue.

3. Collenchyma is mostly restricted to the sub-epidermal parts of aerial plant organs.

4. It usually has high refractive index.

5. Modifications are very few.

6. It occurs in only aerial primary body parts of the plants.

7. The ability to dedifferentiate is nearly absent.
