The genotype is the set of genes in our DNA which is responsible for a perticular trait.

The phenotype is the physical expression or characteristics ,of that trait.

Genotype:-

Def:-The genetic makeup of an individual. Refers to the information contained on two alleles in the cell.

Depends upon:-The hereditary information that was given to an individual by their parents.

Inheritance:-Partly inherited by offspring, as one of the two alleles is passed on during reproduction.

Contains:-All the hereditary information of an individual, even if those genes are not expressed.

Can be determined by:-Genotyping – using a biological assay, such as PCR, to find out what genes are on an allele. (Inside the body).

Example:-DNA, susceptibility to diseases.

Phenotype:-

Def:-Detectable expression of the genotype. An expressed and observable trait. e.g. hair color.

Depends upon:-Genotype and the influence of the environment.

Inheritance:-Cannot be inherited.

Contains:-Expressed genes only.

Can be determined by:-Observation of the individual. (Outside the body)

Example:-Hair color, eye color, weight, the ability to roll one's tongue

alekhdwivedi13: genotype is the genetic make up of any character and phenotype is the outward appearance of any character
addy24052002: Thanks. This helped me a lot.
