The process of removing contaminants from wastewater, primarily from household sewage is known as Sewage treatment. Various process such as physical, chemical, and biological processes are used to remove contaminants and produce treated wastewater that is safer for the environment.The process generally involves three stages, called primary, secondary and tertiary treatment.Difference between primary and secondary sewage treatment. the difference between the two process are as follows;

1) Primary treatment is a physical method of treatment whereas SecondaryIt is a biological method of treatment

2) Primary treatment involves in removal of large particles and floating materials such as leaves, papers, rags, solids such as sand, grit and oily substances whereas Secondary treatment involves the removal of fine suspended and dissolved organic matter.

3) Primary is relatively simple and less time consuming process whereas secondary treatment is relatively complex and takes a long time for its completion
