The agricultural crop year in India is from July to June. The Indian cropping season is classified into two main seasons-(i) Kharif and (ii) Rabi based on the monsoon. The kharif cropping season is from July –October during the south-west monsoon and the Rabi cropping season is from October-March (winter).

For example- wheat , rice.
There are two types of seasonal based crops :
● Rabi crops
● kharif crop
The crops that are grown in winter season is basically termed as rabi crops.
Duration of such crops is October to March.
For example- wheat , mustard
The crops that are sown in rainy season is basically termed as Kharif crop.
Duration of such crops is June to September.
For example- cotton , groundnut
