differentiate between rbcs and platelets
Answers
RBC:- Red blood cells have the important job of carrying oxygen. These cells, which float in your blood, begin their journey in the lungs, where they pick up oxygen from the air you breathe. Then they travel to the heart, which pumps out the blood, delivering oxygen to all parts of your body.
platelets:- Your blood contains many tiny cells called platelets. They help your blood clot, which means that if you get a cut, some of your platelets stick together to plug the hole in the blood vessel wall caused by the cut
• Platelets are considered cell fragments, whereas red blood cells are complete cells.
• Red blood cells make up more than 99 percent of the total volume of formed elements, while platelets make up less than 1%.
• Hemoglobin is found in red blood cells, but it is not found in platelets.
• Red blood cells are larger than platelets.
• Red blood cells transport oxygen, whereas platelets help blood coagulate or clot.
• Platelets are spindle-shaped elements, whereas red blood cells in mammals are circular and biconcave.
• Platelets are colourless, whereas a single red blood cell appears yellowish.
• Human red blood cells have a lifespan of about 120 days, while platelets have a lifespan of 3–7 days.
• Red blood cells are destroyed in the spleen and liver, as well as in the bloodstream. Platelets, on the other hand, are only destroyed when blood is present.
