Sahara

It is the largest low-latitude hot
desert in the world. It is the third largest desert after Antarctica and the
Arctic. Its area is comparable to the area of the United States or China. It
covers a large part of North Africa. It mainly has rocky plateaus. Sand dunes
form only a minor part. Many of the sand dunes are more than 180 metres high.The Sahara is a formidable desert where people usually form a caravan to travel from place to place. The camel is the best form of travel here. The Sahara is home to a number of nomadic tribes.The people grow crops of barley, vegetables and fruits like apple, apricot and walnut the areas around the water source. In some of the lower slopes, there are coniferous forests that yield the willow timber used for making cricket bats.

Ladakh

It is a cold desert. It is located in Jammu and Kashmir and extends from the Kunlun mountain range to the main Great Himalayas to the south. It is the highest plateau in the state. It is very sparsely populated. It is known for its mountain beauty and culture. The mountain ranges in this area were formed by the folding of the Indian plate into the more stationary Eurasian Plate. Frequent earthquakes occur in the region.
