A scalar quantity is a one dimensional measurement of a quantity. examples: speed, mass & distance etc.
A vector has more than one number associated with it. example: displacement, velocity & acceleration etc.

Vector quantities contains both magnitude as well as direction.
ex: displacement, velocity etc.
Scalar quantities contains only magnitude.
ex: Distance,speed etc.
