Rough endoplasmic reticulum​ :

1. Membrane is covered with ribosomes.

2. It is stable

3. Manufactures proteins and transports them to various places

4. It develops from nuclear envelope  

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum :

1. Membrane is not covered with ribosomes.

2. Manufactures lipids and transports them to various places

3. It is not stable

4. It develops from RER.
