Differentiate between striated, unstriated and cardiac muscles on the basis of their structure and site/location in the body?
Answers
Striated Muscles (Skeletal muscles)
1. They are long and Cylindrical shaped.
2. They are unbranched.
3. They are Multinucleated.
4. They are voluntary muscles.
5. These muscles show striations.
6. These muscles are found in body wall, neck and limbs.
Unstriated Muscles (Smooth muscles)
1. They are Spindle shaped.
2. They are unbranched.
3. They are Uninucleated.
4. They are involuntary muscles.
5. These muscles do not show much striations.
6. These muscles are found in stomach, urinary bladder, blood vessels etc.
Cardiac Muscles
1. The cells are cylindrical in shape.
2. They are branched.
3. They are uninucleated.
4. They are involuntary muscles.
5. These muscles show striations.
6. These muscles are found in Heart only.

A group of cells having a common origin and similar function are termed as tissues.
Basically Tissues are of two types :-
A. Plant Tissues and B. Animal Tissues
Than, on the basis of the dividing capacity, PLANT TISSUES having 2 types :-
1. Meristematic Tissues ( Meristematic Tissues are of three types).
2. Permanent Tissues ( Permanent Tissues are divided into 2 categories ).
B. ANIMAL TISSUES :
Animal tissues Classified into four types based on the function they perform :
i) Epithelial
ii) Connective
iii) Muscular
iv) Nervous
Main function of muscular tissues is to provide movement to the body.
Muscular tissues are of three types :-
a) Striated Muscles
b) Unstriated Muscles
c) Cardiac Muscles
Structure/Shape :- Cells are long , cylindrical , non trapering and are unbranched.
Location in body :- In hands, legs and skeletal muscles.
Light and dark bands :- Present.
They are connected to bones ( skeletal muscles )
They are voluntary muscles.
Structure/Shape :- Cell are long with tapering ends and are unbranched.
Location in body :- The wall of stomach , intestine, ureter and bronchi etc.
Light and dark bands :- Absent.
They are involuntary muscles.
They are smooth muscles.
Structure/Shape :- Cells are non tapering and cylindrical in shape and are branched.
Location in body :- Found In the heart.
Light and dark bands :- Present but less prominent. Shows alternate dark and light bands.
They are branched and have one nucleus.
