differentiate between the arrangements of elements in Mendeleev periodic table and Modern Periodic Table

According to the mendeleev:s periodic table,the phyisical and chemical properties of elements are a function of their atomic masses but the modern periodic table states that the physical and chemical properties of elements are a periodic function of their atoic numbers.
