Differentiate between the detritus food chain and grazing food chain with the help of suitable examples

Grazing Food chain starts with producers which are green plants. Green plants are also called autotrophs.

The green plants or  producers are eaten by herbivores which are then eaten  the  carnivorous animals.


Primary producers are green plants (autotrophs)---->primary consumers (herbivores)------->secondary consumers (Carnivores)------>tertiary consumers (top Carnivores)


E.g

Grass(autotrophs)----> Goat, rabbit (herbivores)----->Fox, wolf (Carnivores)----->lion, man(top Carnivores)


1. At the first trophic level the chain begins with green plants (producers).

2. Food chain gets its energy from the Sun.

3. This food chain fixes Inorganic nutrients .

4. This food chain consists of all macroscopic organisms.

5.This Food chain is usually larger.




Detritus food chain:


This food chain starts with dead organic matter which is eaten by animals then they are eaten by other animals in the soil. This food chain flows a lot of energy.


E.g

Detritus (leaf litter) decomposed by microbes in soil------->earthworm (detrivore)----->Rat------>Snake------->eagle.


1. At the first trophic level change starts with decomposers called saprophytes( detritivores).

2. In this food chain energy comes from organic Matter or  the remains of detritus.

3.This food chain helps in fixing inorganic nutrients.

4.This food chain consists of subsoil organisms.

5.This Food chain is usually smaller.
