Answer:

The basic difference between Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide is the number of oxygen molecules.

Carbon dioxide has 2 oxygen molecules and carbon monoxide has 1 oxygen molecule. Carbon dioxide is non-flammable, whilst carbon monoxide is flammable. The biggest difference is that CO2 is a common, naturally occurring gas required for all plant and animal life. CO is not common. It is a byproduct of the burning of fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and gas.

hope it helps :)

Answer:

The critical chemical difference is that CO2 contains one atom of carbon and two atoms of oxygen, whilst CO has one carbon and one oxygen atom. Carbon dioxide is non-flammable, whilst carbon monoxide is not – we certainly wouldn't encourage you to light a match in order to determine which gas is which.
