Differentiate between the following (give at least 3 differences):
1. Carbohydrates and fats
2. Fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins

1). a) diff be carbohydrates and fats

carbohydrates are the abundantly found organic molecules on earth which are made up of carbon , hydrogen and Oxygen

whereas

fats are the simplest form of lipids which also contain carboxylic with hydrocarbon side chains

b) carbohydrates are soluble in water

whereas

fats are insoluble in water but are soluble in inorganic solvents like alcohol and ethanol.

c) the main source of carbohydrates is table sugar , potato , bread ,fruit juices etc . and they also help in maintaining blood glucose level , cholesterol levels and mainly in removing waste from body ....

whereas

the main source of fats is oils in vegetables , seeds , nuts and fats from animals

they also help in regulating hormone production in producing cells , and maintaining body temperature .

2) diff be fat soluble and water soluble vitamins

a) fat soluble vitamins are soluble in fats .they are absorbed by the fat globules that travel through the small intestine and into the general blood circulation within the body.

whereas ,

water soluble vitamins are soluble in water which means they can quickly dissolve in the body .

b) fat soluble vitamins are stored in the body when they are not in use.

whereas

water soluble vitamins are carried away by the body unlike fat soluble vitamins they are not stored and simply pass through the body.

c) eg of fat soluble vitamins are vitamin E , vitamin A , vitamin D and vitamin K etc

whereas

eg of water soluble vitamins are vitamin C , vitamin B thiamine , pantothenic acid , riboflavin and folic acid.
