by-election is held when the incumbent MP is unable or unwilling to continue in the position. A general election can be called by the Prime Minster at any time, but in any event must take place after a maximum of five years. All constituency seats are contested in a general election.

By election happens after some seat fall vacant due to death of or resignation of elected member byelection happens just for that particular vacant seat. New elected member then occupies the seat for remaining period of the term. By definition general election is the rule and by election should be theexception
