In Cyacas:
Microspores are unwinged.
Only one prothallial cell is present.
The entire process completes within few months.

In Pinus:
Microspores are winged.
Two prothallial cells are present.
The entire process takes a year to complete.

In Ephedera:
Microspores are wingless.
Two prothallial cells are present.
The entire process takes few weeks.
