What is the difference between a monarchy and a republic?

Types of Government:

The manner in which a group of leaders rule a country determines the type of government it has. There are many forms of government from an authoritarian system where a central government controls all aspects of society to a direct democracy where the people rule by voting on everything.

Answer and Explanation:

The most significant difference between a monarchy and a republic is the concentration of power. A monarchy is a system where a single person, a King or Queen, rules the people, and all power is concentrated in that position. Succession is usually through the heirs of the monarch, and the day to day ruling is done by people directly appointed by the monarch.

In a republic, power is divided and shared though the different divisions of government. A republic is a representative form of government where the leaders are chosen by the people, and the leaders then rule by making laws and enforcing those laws. Most republics operate on the rule of law, meaning that the law is to be followed by all, even the rulers. Succession is typically done by ballot where the people choose new leaders each election cycle.
