Elements:   is a pure substance and cannot be broken down into two or more simpler substances by any means. Example- iron, sulphur etc.

Compounds:   is a pure substance formed by the combination of two or more elements in a fixed ratio and can be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means only. Example- iron sulphide

Mixtures:  is an impure substance formed by the combination of two or more elements, compounds or both and they are mechanically mixed in any ratio. Example- air, oil and water etc.
