Threshing is the beating of the crop against a stone to separate the grains from the stalk. Winnowing is process of separation of the husk from the seeds by blowing air. Harvesting is the process of gathering a ripe crop from the fields.
Difference Between Threshing, Winnowing and Harvesting
WINNOWING:-
- The process of separating dust particles with the help of wind is called winnowing.
- Mixture of grain and husk are allowed to fall from a height.
- Heavier grain falls on the ground, whereas lighter grains are carried away by the wind.
THRESHING:-
- Process of removing chaff from the grains is called threshing.
- It is done using a stick.
HARVESTING:-
- The process which involves cutting of mature crop to gather grains is known as harvesting.
- Harvesting can be done manually by using a sickle. A sickle is a small instrument with sharp serrate-edged metal blade attached to a wooden handle.
- Harvesting can also be done by using a machine called as harvester.
