The firstdatabases were manual paper-based systems. They are stored in filed cabinets and there are several problems associated with this database e.g. The storage is bulky, often requires large filing cabinets.


Object databases store objects rather than data. This is easier for navigation and better concurrency control.
A hierarchy of objects may be locked and the data model is based on real world. It works well for distributed architectures. It also requires Less code when applications are object-oriented.
