Tropical evergreen forest- 1. These forest found in areas of western ghats and the island groups of lakshadweep, andaman and Nicobar, upper parts of Assam and Tamil nadu coast.

2. They receive more than 200cm of rainfalls

3. The trees of these forest reach great heights of 60 metres and even above.


Tropical deciduous forests - 1. They are found mostly in the eastern part of the country.

2. These forests receive rainfall between 200cm-70cm

3. The trees of these forests are very short upto 20 metres

Difference Between Tropical Evergreen Forest And Tropical Deciduous Forest

  • Tropical Evergreen Forests are found in areas of heavy rainfall and abundant sunshine whereas, Tropical Deciduous Forests are found in the moderately cool climate with moderate rainfall.

  • Trees in Tropical Evergreen Forests do not shed their leaves simultaneously during any part of the year whereas, Trees in Tropical Deciduous Forests shed their leaves in a specific season to preserve the loss of moisture through transpiration.

  • The tropical evergreen forests are found on the eastern margins of continents like South China, South Brazil, etc whereas, Tropical Deciduous Forests are found in subtropical regions of Asia, Central America, Brazil, etc., with a distinct dry season like monsoons.

  • The Tropical Evergreen Forests consist of hardwood species like bamboo, rubber, sandalwood, rosewood, etc whereas, Tropical Deciduous Forest trees are generally deciduous and have broad leaves like oak, ash, cedar, fir, etc.`
