INTRODUCTION:

White blood cells or leukocytes plays a very crucial role in defence mechanisms of body. These cells are divided into two types-Granulocytes and Agranulocytes.

Lymphocytes belongs to agranulocytes cells(with out granules).

Lymphocytes : Depending on the function , the lymphocytes are divided into two types-T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes.

The main difference between these cells are

T lymphocytes- Responsible for the development of cellular immunity.

-The cell immunity is the immunity that is developed by the cell mediated response.Eg;Microphages,Dentritic cells etc

-This immunity does not involve antibodies.

-It is called as cell immunity or T cell immunity.

B lymphocytes-Responsible for the development of Humoral immunity.

-This immunity is mediated by antibodies which are secreated by B lymphocytes.

-These antibodies are secreted into the blood and lymph (body fluids-latin meaning humors)

-That why it is called as humoral immunity or B cell immunity.

-It is the major defense mechanism against the bacterial infection.
