Distance is a scalar quantity that refers to "how much ground an object has covered" during its motion. Displacement is a vector quantity that refers to "how far out of place an object is"; it is the object's overall change in position.
Distance has the magnitude information only (scalar) while both displacement and relative position have the directional information in addition to the magnitude (vector).

distance:it is the path when a body covers from one place to other.it depends on the path.it is a vector quantity.
displacement:it is the shortest distance between intial and final positions.it doesn't depends on the path.it is a vector quantity.
where yellow line is displacement and blue line is distance
