Aerenchyma: A spongy or soft plant tissue with large air spaces found between the cells of the stems and leaves of many aquatic plants, which allows exchange of gases between the shoot and the root. Aerenchyma also provides buoyancy, so the plants can easily float on the water. Chlorenchyma: In some cases the parenchyma cells contain chloroplasts and are called as chlorenchyma. These cells are meant for photosynthesis.
