Euchromatin is lightly stained under nuclear stains. In heterochromatin, the DNA is tightly bound or condensed. In euchromatin, the DNA is lightly bound or compressed. The DNA in heterochromatin is folded with the histone proteins.

Explanation:

In a typical nucleus, some regions of chromatin are loosely packed and stains lightly and are referred to as euchromatin. On the other hand, the chromatin that is more densely packed and stains dark are referred as heterochromatin. Euchromatin is transcriptionally active chromatin, whereas heterochromatin is inactive.
