If the medium surrounded by the cell has a higher water concentration than the cell, the cell will gain water tgrough osmosis.Such solutions is known as Hypotonic solution.
Or
If cell doesnt have much water content that of surronded medium then cell will gain water.

If in the medium surrounding the cell has a higher water concentration than the cell, meaning that the outside solution is very dilute, the cell gain water by osmosis.such solution is known as hypotonic solution...
If the medium has exactly the same water concentration as the cell l,there will be no net movement of water across the cell membrane. such solution is know as an isotonic solution.....
If the medium has lower concentration of water than the cell, meaning that it is very concentrated solution, the cell will lose water by osmosis.such solution is know n as hypertonic solution....
Hope it helps
