a). A COMMON ACID BASE INDICATOR - A common acid base indicator just indicates whether the given substance is acidic or basic.
Examples are litmus papers, phenolphthalein, turmeric, etc.

A UNIVERSAL INDICATOR - A universal indicator indicates the pH of the given substance and helps us to identify whether the given substance is a weak acid or a strong acid , it is neutral, it is a weak base or a strong base. Examples include red cabbage juice, pH metre, etc.

b).ACIDITY OF BASES - The amount of OH- ions obtainable by the dissociation of one molecule of the base is called it's acidity.
According to their acidity bases are classified into three types - monoacidic, diacidic and triacidic bases.

BASICITY OF ACIDS- The amount of H+ ions obtainable by the dissociation of one molecule of an acid is called it's basicity. According to their basicity , acids are classified into three types - monobasic, dibasic and tribasic acid.

c).ACIDS - In acids, H+ ion is the only cation seen. Acids are sour to taste. For e.g. HCl, HNO3, etc.

ALKALI - In alkalies, OH- ion is the only anion seen. Alkalies are bitter to taste. For e.g. KOH, NaOH, etc.
