Generally Municipality is change to Municipal corporation after getting population more than or arround 3 lakh by government . There is chief officer with other councilers in municipality. Municipal corporation is ruled by IAS officer/ Mayor. Some rare cases also happened for example in Gujarat , Gandhinagar is Municipal corporation having less population than other municipalities in Gujarat like Anand , Nadiad , Navsari and Mehsana.
Very small village : Gram panchayat
Small town: Nagar Panchayat/ Municipal bureau
City arround 1 lakh to 3 lakh population : Nagarpalika/ Municipality
Big city more than 3 lakh : Municipal corporation/ Mahanagarpalika
