Answer:

Explanation:

Hi✌️✌️✌️

A rainbow is formed due to the refraction followed by dispersion of white light ray by a water droplet in the atmosphere.

Primary rainbow is formed because of one total internal reflection and two refraction of white light by water droplet whereas secondary rainbow is formed because of two total internal reflections and two refraction of white light by water droplet.

A secondary rainbow is more brighter than primary rainbow.

I hope it will help you ❣️❣️

We are asked to differentiate between primary and secondary rainbows and these will be differentiated as under:

  • A primary rainbow is one in which the red color is visible at the outer edge of the bow and the effective rays are refracted as they enter each drop, reflect from its internal surface, and refracted once more as they emerge to reach the observer's vision.
  • When light enters a raindrop experiences two internal reflections as opposed to one, as it does with a main rainbow, a secondary rainbow forms outside of the primary rainbow.
  • Due to this, the following characteristics of the primary rainbow and secondary rainbow will differ in the following ways:
  • The spectator can see violet at the bottom and red at the top of the primary rainbow. While in a secondary rainbow, the order of the colors is reversed.
  • Additionally, the light intensity decreases at the second reflection, making the secondary rainbow fainter than the first rainbow.
  • While a secondary rainbow is created by two total internal reflections and two white light refractions by a water droplet, a primary rainbow is created by one total internal reflection and two white light refractions.
