Hepatic portal vein or simply the portal vein is the vein which collects the blood from gall bladder, pancreas , spleen and abdominal part of alimentary tract and transfer it to the liver.
Hepatic vein is the vein of liver which collects the de-oxygenated blood from the liver and drain directly into the inferior vena-cava and from vena-cava to the heart.
Portal vein is form by union of superior mesenteric vein and splenic vein. Hepatic vein is form by the union of sublobular vein of liver.
Portal vein have two branches i.e. right and the left. Before the portal vein enter into the liver it divides into two branches-Right and left branch that I mentioned above. Right branch is shorter and wider than the left branch. Left branch is longer and narrower than right branch
Explanation:
Unlike most veins, the portal vein does not drain into the heart. Rather, it is part of a portal venous system that delivers venous blood into another capillary system, the hepatic sinusoids of the liver.
