Gemete formation is a very important perfertilisation event in sexual reproduction. Since sexual reproduction involves two parents with opposite sex so there would be formation two types of gamete.

Spermatogenesis is the process of formation of sperm i.e; haploid male gamete. It occurs in seminiferous tubules of male's testis. Spermatogenesis is influenced by male sex hormone i.e; Testosterone.

The process of formation of secondary oocyte (ovum) i.e; haploid female gamete is called as Oogenesis. It occurs in ovary of females. Oogenesis is influenced by female sex hormone i.e; Oestrogen.

Spermatogenesis and Oogenesis together known as Gametogenesis.
