1) METALS react with oxygen to form metallic oxides which are basic in nature whereas NON-METALS react with oxygen to form non metallic oxides which are acidic in nature.
2) metals react with water but non metals do not react with water.
3) Metals react with acids except gold and platinum but non metals do not react with acids except sulphur and phosphorus.
