Difference between Acids and Bases :-

Acids :-

1. Acids have a sour taste.

2. They turn blue litmus red.

3. They corrode most metals i.e. chemically act on them, forming salts.

4. Hydrochloric acid is used as a bathroom cleaner.

5. Citric acid is a flavouring agent and food preservative.

6. Nitric acid is used in the manufacturing of fertilisers.

Bases :-

1. They generally taste bitter.

2. They turn red litmus blue.

3. They neutralise acids.

4. They are used for neutralising acids and acidic substances.

5. Lime, which is a base, is used as whitewash.

6. Caustic alkalis are used in making soap from oils and fats.

Acid :

  • An acid is an any chemical compound once dissolved in it will water produces a solution with hydrogen ion activity more tha a purified water .

  • Acid are sour in taste .

  • Acids are corrosive in nature.

  • They are good conductors of electricity.

  • Their pH values are always less than 7.

Bases :

  • They are found to have a soapy texture when touched.

  • Acids are bitter in taste

  • These substances release hydroxide ions (OH– ions) when dissolved in water.

  • In their aqueous solutions, bases act as good conductors of electricity.

  • The pH values corresponding to bases are always greater than 7.
